Chikune joins forces with Wild Africa and OAS1SONE and over 100 African singer-songwriters in a historic first-ever a world tour series of Music for Wildlife Concerts, to lend their voices in support of wildlife conservation, raise awareness for climate change and plastics pollution, and have their messaging, voices, music and live performances broadcast across several Pan African and global television, radio and streaming platforms.
Chikune, born Colleen Tjikune onJanuary 30, 1992, in Windhoek, Namibia, is a celebrated singer-songwriter known for her versatile musical style that blends Afro-pop, R&B, and traditional Namibian sounds. Growing up in a musically inclined family, she was exposed to various genres from a young age, fostering her passion for singing and songwriting. Her parents' diverse music collection, ranging from African rhythms to Western pop, significantly influenced her eclectic taste and style. While studying medicine at the University of Namibia, Chikune began performing at local events and talent shows, quickly gaining a reputation for her soulful voice and dynamic performances. Her big break came in 2015 with her debut single "Pumpkin," followed by her debut album "In With TheNew," which showcased her versatility and solidified her status as arising star in the Namibian music industry.
Chikune's music, characterized by a rich blend of Afro-pop, R&B, and traditional Namibian elements, draws inspiration from artists like Whitney Houston, Brenda Fassie, and Erykah Badu. Over the years, she has garnered numerous awards, including the Best Newcomer award at the Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) in 2016, and has been named one of the top 100 most influential young Namibians. Beyond her musical achievements, Chikune is a passionate advocate for social issues, using her platform to raise awareness about gender equality, mental health, and education. As a trained medical professional, she emphasizes health and wellness, particularly within the artistic community. Additionally, she is involved in various charitable activities, working with organizations that support underprivileged communities in Namibia, and her commitment to social causes has made her a role model for many young Namibians.
